The Story Behind DILV

I grew up watching my grandfather prepare tea.

Not the casual kind — the kind that takes time. A small pot, a wooden tray worn smooth from years of use, a particular way of warming the cups before the first pour. He never explained it. He just did it, every morning, with the same unhurried attention he gave to everything that mattered.

I didn't understand it then. I do now.

DILV began with a simple question: why are the objects of Chinese tea culture so difficult to find outside of China? The tea trays passed down through families. The lacquered pieces made by craftspeople who learned their trade over decades. The small tools — the scoop, the cloth, the mat — that give a tea session its rhythm and its quiet.

These objects exist. They are being made today, by hand, in workshops across China, using techniques that are hundreds of years old. But they rarely travel far.

We wanted to change that.

What We Make

Every piece in the DILV collection is selected for three things: the quality of its material, the integrity of its craft, and its presence on the tea table. We work with makers who share our belief that a well-made object is not a luxury — it is a form of respect. For the material. For the person who made it. For the person who uses it.

Our tea trays are lacquered by hand, layer by layer, in the tradition of Chinese 大漆 (dà qī) — a craft that has been practiced for over three thousand years. Our cup holders carry patterns drawn from nature: the wing of a cicada, the weight of an autumn harvest. Our warmers are turned from black walnut, a wood that darkens and deepens with use.

None of these objects are mass-produced. Each one takes time to make. That is the point.

Who We Are For

We serve tea lovers, collectors, and anyone who believes that the objects around us shape the quality of our daily life. A tea table arranged with care is not a performance — it is a practice. It is a way of slowing down, of paying attention, of finding something worth returning to each morning.

Whether you are building your first tea table or refining one you have tended for years, we are here to help you find the right pieces.

Our Promise

Every object in our collection is selected with care. We work with makers who share our respect for material, form, and the slow art of tea. We stand behind everything we sell — if something is not right, we will make it right.

Made in China. Made to last.
